If injections are expected, you are advised to take advice from your doctor about blood-thinning medicines and supplements (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and vitamin E) for about two weeks beforehand, because this lowers the risk of bruising. Never stop a prescribed medicine without your doctor's approval. Avoid alcohol for 48 hours, arrive with clean skin, and bring a list of your medications. Reschedule if you have an active cold sore, infection or recent dental work.

Pricing is per unit with a minimum fee, shared in writing before anything is injected, with the brand, the units for each area, the total and the dates the price is in effect. Units differ by brand, so a per-unit price cannot be compared across brands.

A dollar total means little without the brand and the unit count. 50 units of one brand is not the same dose as 50 units of another, and $400 buys different amounts of different products. Compare written quotes by brand, units per area and minimum fee, not by the total.

No units equal another brand's units: every label states its dosing units are not comparable to any other botulinum toxin product. Jeuveau, Letybo and Daxxify are approved for glabellar (frown) lines only; Xeomin covers glabellar, crow's feet and forehead lines; Botox Cosmetic also covers platysma bands.
